As per the agreement made between Rivian and Tesla, Rivian drivers will have access to more than 12,000 Tesla superchargers across the US and Canada from next year. Moreover, Rivian will also incorporate Tesla's North American Charging Standard port into its existing EV models from 2025, and even a future model called the R2.

This collaboration between Rivian and Tesla is not new to the industry, as other EV makers and charging infrastructure companies have been seen shifting towards Tesla's technology in North America. This is evident from Ford Motor Co. and General Motors Co. striking deals with Tesla last month. Additionally, companies such as ChargePoint Holdings Inc., Blink Charging Co. and EVgo Inc. are now offering compatible chargers, making the industry coalesce around a single standard in the domestic market.

The availability and reliability of charging infrastructure are crucial factors for broader electric vehicle adoption, and a single standard could give consumers greater confidence as they consider a plug-in purchase. Tesla's charging network has earned a reputation for reliability, ranking the highest in a recent J.D. Power survey of EV drivers.

Despite Rivian building its own network of chargers under the Combined Charging System standard, the other major protocol competing with NACS, it will continue to build out that network, according to the company.

This latest partnership between Rivian and Tesla is a clear indication that electric vehicle technology is advancing at a rapid pace. It also highlights the importance of industry collaboration in promoting the adoption of environmentally friendly technologies. The combination of the EV development and charging infrastructure industries is creating a greener future for transportation, and this trend is set to accelerate in the coming years.
