Toyota has introduced the fourth generation of its popular luxury vehicles, Alphard and Vellfire, with a refreshed look. Despite the interior and exterior largely remaining the same as previous versions, the new models now sport a front grille and side curvature that is similar to the Lexus LM, which the company unveiled in April. The latest models will initially be available in hybrid and gasoline-powered versions, with plug-in electric options expected in the future.

The Alphard Executive Lounge starts at ¥5.4 million ($38,000) with the option of a 2.5-liter hybrid engine. Meanwhile, the Vellfire starts at ¥6.55 million and can be purchased with a 2.4-liter turbocharged gasoline engine. Toyota's goal is to sell 8,500 units per month, with Alphard making up 70% of the total sales and Vellfire accounting for 30%.

The automaker's unveiling of the Alphard and Vellfire marks the first new releases from the company since its annual meeting last week. At the meeting, Chairman Akio Toyoda's reappointment was approved, although he received less support than in the past. Despite this, Toyota, the world's largest automaker, has committed to significantly expanding its electric vehicle production within the next few years.

In summary, Toyota has revamped its luxury Alphard and Vellfire models with a new look. While the interior and exterior remain mostly the same, the vehicles now resemble the Lexus LM in terms of their front grille and side design. At launch, the fourth-generation models will be available in hybrid and gasoline-powered versions, with an eye toward adding plug-in electric options later. The vehicles start at ¥5.4 million and ¥6.55 million for the Alphard and Vellfire, respectively, and Toyota aims to sell 8,500 units per month.
