Silverstein Properties, one of the leading New York-based developers, has teamed up with Greenwood Gaming and Entertainment to pitch a proposal for a casino and resort development on the far west side of Manhattan. The proposed project, named Avenir, would span 1.8 million square feet of land, boasting a casino, luxury hotel, residences, and an entertainment complex.
The site proposed for the project is at 41st Street and 11th Avenue, north of the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. The land is owned by Silverstein Properties and is currently undeveloped. The developers envision a 46-story twin-tower design interconnected by a public sky bridge over an eight-story gaming, entertainment, and restaurant complex. The planned development will offer over 1,000 luxury hotel rooms and a hundred affordable housing units.
Larry Silverstein, the chairman of Silverstein Properties, in a statement released on Friday, expressed confidence in his developments, citing the historic challenges currently facing the state. He added: "We need to work with state and local leaders to do everything we can to make New York the best place to live, work, and visit. We’ve done it before, and I am confident we can do it again."
The proposal from Silverstein Properties joins a number of other gaming license pitches from developers wanting to build casinos in New York City. Among these are SL Green Realty Corp, which has pitched a casino in Times Square, and Related Cos., which has proposed a gaming and entertainment complex for the second phase of its $25 billion Hudson Yards project. State officials have yet to announce the deadline for the submission of bids.
