Sir Elton John will give his final UK gig at the close of the Glastonbury festival in 2023. At 76 years of age, the veteran musician says that he will put on a full new show for his fans on Sunday, and will be joined on stage by four "special guests" who have yet to be named. Sir Elton's Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour has been travelling across the world for the past few years, treating fans to extravagant costumes, spectacular visuals and timeless classics like Rocket Man, Your Song and Tiny Dancer.
Though the identity of the special guests remains a mystery, fans are speculating that they could include Harry Styles, Billy Joel, Ed Sheeran, or even US pop star Britney Spears, who could join him to perform some of his iconic songs. Dua Lipa is also a possibility, given that she has already appeared on stage with Sir Elton during his final US show at the Los Angeles Dodger Stadium last year, alongside Brandi Carlile.
According to Sir Elton's husband David Furnish, the Glastonbury show will be very special, with an entirely new setlist anda huge outdoor live festival adding to his nerves. Furnish also revealed that Sir Elton won't quit music after the Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour ends in Sweden next month and will start working on a new studio album in the autumn.
Blondie, Lil Nas X and Yusuf/Cat Stevens are among the other acts performing at Glastonbury festival. Saturday saw Guns N' Roses make their festival debut, with the US rockers performing hit tracks such as Live And Let Die and Sweet Child O Mine. Meanwhile, Lana Del Rey encountered some difficulties during her Saturday show after power to her microphone was cut. The Born to Die star voiced concerns that she might be forced to finish her set early because of the late start but delighted fans by leading them in an a capella performance of her final song Video Games.
Rick Astley opened the Pyramid Stage on Saturday, performing a Harry Styles cover and showing off his drumming skills, while Tilda Swinton joined composer and pianist Max Richter on the Park stage. In addition to music, guests could also take part in a political panel called One Minute To Midnight: Can Politics Deliver On Climate Action?, which saw Labour's shadow climate secretary Ed Miliband take part.
