Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has intensified his anti-western rhetoric by stating that the upcoming elections in Turkey should be a “lesson” to the United States.
He made these remarks as part of his campaign strategy to garner support from nationalists ahead of the vote. Erdogan criticized US Ambassador Jeff Flake for his visit to Kemal Kilicdaroglu, Erdogan’s main electoral rival, and said, “We have to give a lesson to America” in the May 14 elections.
Erdogan was addressing a nationalist youth group in Istanbul and added that the ambassador's door has been "closed to him".
