Twitter has not followed through on its commitment to remove legacy blue checkmarks from the platform, causing confusion among users.
Last month, billionaire owner Elon Musk stated that legacy verified users would lose their blue ticks unless they paid an $8 monthly fee to join Twitter Blue. Organisations were expected to pay $1,000 per month for a gold verification tick. However, the legacy blue ticks have not been removed, despite the April 1 deadline.
Twitter has also made it harder to distinguish between legacy checkmarks and those that have been paid for. Some legacy verified accounts now have a message that reads: "This account is verified because it's subscribed to Twitter Blue or is a legacy verified account."
