To increase its coverage of Coachella, YouTube, a subsidiary of Alphabet Inc., has secured the rights to livestream all six of the festival's stages this year, doubling the number of feeds from the previous year.
This move comes as technology companies such as Amazon and Apple compete to obtain the rights to high-profile entertainment events. In January, YouTube signed a four-year deal with Goldenvoice, the festival's organizer, extending its exclusive coverage until 2026.
Coachella tickets are notoriously expensive, with general admission weekend passes costing at least $549, but YouTube hopes to offer fans worldwide the chance to experience the festival through its livestream. Additionally, YouTube is expanding its coverage to its short-form video platform, YouTube Shorts, which competes with TikTok. The festival runs from April 14 to 16 and April 21 to 23.
