The floodwaters in New Delhi are gradually receding, bringing relief to the residents of India's capital city. According to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, the Yamuna river, which had overflowed and caused widespread flooding, is expected to return to its normal levels soon, as long as there are no heavy rains in the coming days.

Efforts have been underway to repair the facilities affected by the floodwater, and as a result, two water treatment plants in the northern part of the city are likely to resume operations on Sunday. This is a significant development as the closure of these treatment plants had caused a 25% reduction in the city's water supply. The return of these plants to full operation will help alleviate the water scarcity issues faced by the residents.

The heavy rainfall across northern India over the past week has resulted in the deaths of several people and triggered the flooding in Delhi. The Yamuna river, which cuts across the city, spilled out onto roads surrounding the historic Red Fort, reclaiming its ancient flowpath. As a precautionary measure, schools, colleges, and universities in the city were closed, and many shops and businesses were also shuttered.

To provide assistance to affected residents, thousands of people were relocated from low-lying areas to temporary relief centers set up in schools and other buildings. Additionally, many individuals sought refuge in tents and under flyovers. The deployment of army units and restrictions on the entry of heavy vehicles have been implemented to mitigate further flooding.

While the situation is gradually improving, authorities are monitoring the weather forecast closely. It is predicted that Delhi will experience light monsoon rains until Tuesday, which should not pose a significant threat. However, any unpredicted heavy rainfall might hamper the progress made so far.

As the water levels recede and essential services resume, the city is slowly returning to normalcy. The resumption of water treatment plant operations will bring relief to residents who have been facing water scarcity. And with the collaboration of authorities and the support of its citizens, Delhi hopes to recover fully from the recent flooding and ensure the well-being of its people.
