Kuwait has outlined its plans to launch a new sovereign investment vehicle as part of its strategy to stimulate economic growth and enhance its development projects. The government's latest work program introduces the Ciyada Development Fund, which aims to accelerate the growth of the Kuwaiti economy and improve the quality of life for its citizens.
The Ciyada Development Fund will work in partnership with both local and international private sectors, focusing on strategic planning and effective execution of major development projects. The fund's objective is to foster progress and prosperity in various fields of development, ensuring transparency and good governance.
This new investment vehicle will operate alongside Kuwait's existing sovereign wealth fund, the Future Generations Fund (FGF), which is valued at $700 billion. Managed by the Kuwait Investment Authority (KIA), the FGF primarily focuses on investments abroad. On the other hand, the Ciyada Development Fund will concentrate its efforts on boosting the local market and contributing to the country's economic growth.
Unlike the FGF, the Ciyada Development Fund is expected to publicly report its performance, emphasizing transparency in its operations. A feasibility study for the fund, which will have a distinct mandate from the FGF, will be conducted over the course of a year.
Kuwait's government work program, unveiled alongside the formation of the new cabinet, showcases the country's strong commitment to diversifying its economy and decreasing reliance on oil revenue. The establishment of the Ciyada Development Fund is seen as a key step in this direction, aimed at stimulating economic growth and improving the overall quality of life for Kuwait's citizens.
