Netflix, the popular streaming service, has made a significant change to its subscription plans in the US and UK. Starting immediately, the company will no longer offer its basic ad-free plan, priced at $9.99 a month, to new or returning customers. Existing subscribers who have the basic plan will be able to keep it.

This move by Netflix will essentially push consumers in two different directions. Those who are more conscious of costs may opt for the cheaper plan that includes advertisements. On the other hand, viewers who prefer an ad-free experience will now have to choose a more expensive plan. The cheapest ad-free option available is now priced at $15.49 a month in the US and £10.99 in the UK, as stated on the company's website.

Netflix seems to be pursuing two strategies to boost revenue growth. Firstly, by offering customers a tier that includes advertising, the company aims to appeal to cost-conscious viewers who are willing to tolerate ads. Secondly, Netflix is cracking down on password sharing by encouraging subscribers to purchase additional memberships for friends or family members who use their accounts.

These changes come as Netflix continues to battle with increasing competition in the streaming space. By diversifying its subscription options and exploring new revenue streams, Netflix aims to maintain its market dominance and sustain its growth in the ever-evolving streaming industry.
