Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has given his approval for the suspension of government work and public-school classes in metropolitan Manila on Monday. This decision was made in light of Typhoon Doksuri, also known as Typhoon Egay, which is expected to affect the region. Additionally, a 72-hour transport strike is scheduled for the same day.
While the suspension of work in the private sector and classes in private schools will be left to their discretion, the Presidential Communications Office has officially announced the suspension for the government and public-school sectors.
Typhoon Doksuri currently has maximum sustained winds of 75 kilometers per hour (47 miles per hour) and gusts of up to 90 kilometers per hour. The local weather bureau, Pagasa, has reported that the typhoon is likely to intensify into a severe tropical storm within the next 12 hours. Furthermore, it is expected to reach super typhoon status on Tuesday or Wednesday while moving over the Philippine Sea to the east of northern Luzon.
Considering the geographical location of Metro Manila on the southwestern side of central Luzon, it is important to take precautionary measures to ensure the safety of the residents. President Marcos Jr.'s decision to suspend work and classes aims to minimize the potential risks and disruptions caused by the typhoon.
This announcement comes at a significant time, as President Marcos Jr. is scheduled to deliver his second State of the Nation Address on Monday. The suspension of work and classes will allow residents to prioritize their safety and well-being amid the potential impact of the typhoon.
As the typhoon continues to develop, it is crucial for everyone in the affected areas to stay updated with the latest weather advisories and instructions from local authorities. Taking necessary precautions and staying safe should be a top priority during this time.
