The White House announced on Wednesday that President Joe Biden will travel to the United Kingdom and Ireland next week. Biden will first visit Belfast, Northern Ireland, on Tuesday to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement, before traveling to Ireland to discuss close cooperation on shared global challenges.
The president will hold various engagements in Dublin, County Louth, and County Mayo, including delivering an address to celebrate the deep historic ties that link the two countries and their people. The US helped broker the landmark Good Friday Agreement, which brought an end to decades of sectarian violence.
The last US president to visit Belfast was Barack Obama in 2013. Irish Taoiseach Leo Varadkar said he was looking forward to welcoming President Biden back to Ireland as the President of the United States.
