Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal has reportedly made an astonishing offer of €300 million ($333 million) to French striker Kylian Mbappe, as he weighs his options for his next move. The 24-year-old football sensation currently has only one year remaining on his contract with the Qatari-backed Paris-Saint Germain (PSG) club.
Al-Hilal's attempt to secure the services of Mbappe, who is widely regarded as one of the most exciting talents in the world, follows a spree of spending from Saudi Arabia that has disrupted several sports. This summer, Al-Hilal has already acquired the services of Kalidou Koulibaly and Rúben Neves from English Premier League clubs. Furthermore, Cristiano Ronaldo joined Al-Nassr in January.
While both Al-Hilal and PSG declined to comment on the specific offer, tensions have arisen between Mbappe and PSG in recent times. The French striker declined to extend his contract by one year until 2025, straining relations between the player and the club. Even French President Emmanuel Macron expressed his desire to persuade Mbappe to remain at PSG.
As a consequence, PSG announced that Mbappe would not be accompanying the team on their upcoming tour in Asia. Speculation arose that the player had accepted an offer from Real Madrid in Spain, prompting PSG to put him up for sale immediately instead of allowing him to leave for free next year.
Mbappe, who moved to PSG from Monaco in 2017 for a fee of €180 million, has established himself as one of the best players in the world since then. Bursting onto the scene as a 16-year-old with Monaco, he played a pivotal role in their Ligue 1 championship victory. Subsequently, he has won four more domestic titles with PSG and was instrumental in France's triumph at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
With the deadline for Mbappe to decide on his contract extension with PSG approaching on July 31, football fans eagerly await news of his future destination. The staggering offer from Al-Hilal raises the stakes even higher in the battle for the coveted striker's signature.
