Aston Martin Lagonda Global Holdings Plc has announced plans to raise £210 million ($270 million) through a share offering in a bid to repay high-interest debt and support the company's electrification strategy. The British luxury car manufacturer aims to attract new investors to help improve its financial position.
The share offering will see major shareholders, including Lawrence Stroll's Yew Tree consortium, Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, Geely International, and Mercedes-Benz Group AG, subscribing to approximately £115 million of the placement. The remaining shares will be made available to institutional investors.
Aston Martin's Chairman, Lawrence Stroll, stated that the proceeds from the share offering would be used to pay off expensive debts, accelerate the company's deleveraging efforts, and achieve sustainable positive cash flow. This move is in line with Aston Martin's ongoing turnaround strategy, as the company strives to return to profitability.
The luxury carmaker recently reported better-than-expected second-quarter earnings, demonstrating progress in its recovery efforts. However, Aston Martin has faced financial difficulties in recent years, prompting the need for multiple capital raises. This share offering will provide a much-needed boost to the company's financial position and support its long-term growth strategy.
In addition, Aston Martin has forged a partnership with Lucid Group Inc., backed by Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund, for electric vehicle technology. This collaboration is crucial for Aston Martin as it seeks to acquire cutting-edge technology from industry partners to stay competitive in the evolving automotive landscape.
By leveraging the financial support from investors and securing partnerships with technology-focused companies, Aston Martin aims to solidify its position in the luxury car market and achieve its electrification goals. The funds raised through the share offering will help the company reduce its debt burden and pave the way for sustained growth and profitability in the future.
