The Pentagon is investigating screenshots of what appear to be classified US and NATO military information about Ukraine circulating on social media. Some of the images circulating on Twitter and Telegram, it cannot verify their authenticity or whether they have been edited. US officials claim that the documents are genuine slides from a larger daily intelligence deck produced by the Pentagon about the war, but it appears that some parts of the documents have been altered.
Mykhailo Podolyak, adviser to the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, believes that the Russians are behind the leak, and that the documents are inauthentic and based on fictitious information. Some of the documents include a photo of a hard copy of a document titled "US, Allied & Partner UAF Combat Power Build," a document titled "Russia/Ukraine Joint Staff J3/4/5 Daily Update (D+370)," a map of the conflict as of March 1, and a weather projection from February. The New York Times reports that some of the intelligence contained in the images could be useful to Russia.
The emergence of the documents has increased attention on when the planned Ukrainian counteroffensive will begin and what either side knows about the other's preparations for it.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that he believes the United States and NATO are directly or indirectly involved in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, and that this involvement is gradually rising, but it will not affect the final outcome of the special operation.
