According to anonymous sources, Elon Musk is planning a visit to China this weekend, with a possible stop at Tesla's Shanghai factory. The trip is expected to include a meeting with local Shanghai officials, and Musk is traveling with Tom Zhu, the company's newly appointed Senior Vice President of Automotive.
The plans are not yet public, and Tesla has not commented on the matter. The visit comes amid heightened tensions between China and the US, but the country remains Tesla's second-largest market after the US, accounting for over 22% of revenue in 2022. Tesla increased shipments from its Shanghai plant in March, and the company cut prices on models produced there in October 2022 and again in January 2023.
