Estonia's newly re-elected Prime Minister, Kaja Kallas, has pledged to increase defense spending as part of a new governing coalition focused on fiscal responsibility and progressive policies. Kallas, who has been a strong supporter of Ukraine in its conflict with Russia, plans to increase defense spending to 3% of GDP in the coming years.
Under her leadership, Estonia has been the largest contributor of weapons aid to Ukraine on a per-capita basis, and has advocated for tough sanctions against Russia for its invasion of Ukraine. The new coalition government, which will be sworn in next week, will include Kallas's center-right Reform Party, Estonia 200, and the Social Democrats.
