The USA basketball team took another step towards their ultimate goal of winning gold at the Basketball World Cup with a convincing victory over Greece. Led by a balanced scoring effort, with Austin Reaves leading the way with 15 points, the Americans sealed their spot in the second round with a 109-81 win. While securing a place in the next round is a noteworthy achievement, the American team remains solely focused on the ultimate prize.
Jalen Brunson and Anthony Edwards also had strong performances, each contributing 13 points to the winning effort. Brunson was flawless, making all five of his shots, while Bobby Portis added 10 points and Josh Hart grabbed 11 rebounds for the team. The USA's victory, coupled with a win by New Zealand over Jordan, guarantees the Americans' advancement to the next stage of the tournament.
The road to the second round came as no surprise for the USA, who have not lost a game in their last seven outings. However, France's early elimination from the tournament serves as a reminder that even the most dominant teams cannot take anything for granted. With this in mind, the American team approached their match against Greece with a business-like attitude.
While Greece was without their star player, Giannis Antetokounmpo, due to offseason knee surgery, they still put up a fight behind Georgios Papagiannis' 17 points. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to overcome the strong USA team. The Americans led comfortably throughout the game, with a 50-37 advantage at halftime and a commanding 79-56 lead heading into the final quarter.
The USA team is eager to continue their winning streak and improve as the tournament progresses. With a deep roster and a focus on solid execution, they are aiming for nothing less than gold. The team remains relentless, maintaining pressure on their opponents while staying composed on every possession.
Looking ahead, the USA will face Jordan in their final group-stage game. Greece, on the other hand, will play New Zealand, with the winner of that match advancing to the next round. The USA's perfect start to the tournament, including their impeccable free-throw shooting, has them poised to take on any challenge that comes their way.
As the Basketball World Cup continues, the focus remains on the USA team's pursuit of gold. They understand that every game is a step towards their ultimate goal. With their sights set firmly on the top prize, the American team is determined to maintain their winning form and seize this opportunity to showcase their dominance on the global stage.
