The United Kingdom is currently experiencing an unprecedented heatwave, with temperatures reaching a scorching 32.7°C at Heathrow, making it the hottest day of the year so far. This heatwave also marks a new record for September, as it is the first time the country has seen six consecutive days of temperatures above 30°C during this month. Just two days prior, Wisley in Surrey recorded a high of 32.6°C, setting the previous highest temperature of the year.

As the heatwave continues, the UK Health Security Agency has issued an amber heat health alert. This means that the impact of the weather is likely to be felt across the health service, with particular concern for individuals aged 65 and above, as well as those with pre-existing respiratory or cardiovascular conditions who are at a greater risk. It is important for vulnerable individuals to take necessary precautions to stay cool and hydrated during this hot weather.

However, amidst the scorching temperatures, weather warnings for storms have also been issued across the UK. A yellow warning has been issued by the Met Office for areas including east Wales, Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, Manchester, Nottingham, and Oxford. This warning is in effect until 9 pm, and it indicates the possibility of flash flooding, lightning strikes, hail, or strong winds in these regions. In the event of such circumstances, road access and public transport may be interrupted.

Looking ahead, a similar warning has been issued for Sunday, covering Northern Ireland, northern parts of England and Wales, as well as southern Scotland. This warning extends until 11:59 pm and warns of the potential for stormy weather with the same risks of flash flooding, lightning strikes, hail, and strong winds.

As the heatwave persists and with the looming threat of storms, it is crucial for individuals to stay informed about the changing weather conditions and to take necessary precautions to stay safe and protected.
