Noble House Home Furnishings LLC, a prominent distributor and manufacturer of indoor and outdoor furniture, has filed for bankruptcy, citing a decline in consumer spending and the impact of inflation. The company, which supplies furniture to major retailers such as Amazon, Wayfair, and Target, listed assets and liabilities of at least $100 million each in its bankruptcy petition.

The filing will allow Noble House to continue its operations while it seeks to sell itself to GigaCloud Technology Inc., a publicly traded company, or another potential bidder. GigaCloud has already made an offer of $85 million for Noble House's assets, with an additional $4.1 million designated for equipment, along with the assumption of certain debts. However, this bid sets a minimum price, and other potential bidders may still outbid GigaCloud. The closing date for the deal with GigaCloud is set for October 31, according to court documents.

Noble House, founded in 1992 and based in Chatsworth, California, experienced rapid growth during the Covid-19 pandemic, as consumers confined to their homes sought to upgrade their furniture. However, as pandemic restrictions eased, the company witnessed a decline in total net sales, dropping from $671 million in 2021 to $491 million in 2022. Court papers indicate that projected revenue for 2023 is expected to be even lower. This decrease in sales, combined with the ongoing challenges of inflation and supply chain disruptions, ultimately led Noble House into financial instability.

In an attempt to mitigate its financial woes, Noble House implemented cost-cutting measures in 2023, including reducing its workforce, optimizing inventory management, and vacating a facility in New Jersey. Unfortunately, these efforts were insufficient to prevent the company from resorting to bankruptcy.

As of now, there has been no comment from Noble House's legal representatives regarding the bankruptcy filing. The future of the company will likely depend on the outcome of the sale to GigaCloud or any potential higher bidders.
