Warren Buffett has revealed that geopolitical tensions played a role in Berkshire Hathaway's decision to sell most of its shares in Taiwan-based global chip manufacturer TSMC. The legendary investor said that while TSMC was a well-managed company,
Berkshire had "better places" to deploy its capital. In February, the firm sold 86% of its shares in TSMC, which it had purchased for $4.1 billion just months earlier. TSMC is considered a national treasure in Taiwan, providing semiconductors to tech giants such as Apple and Qualcomm.
It is perceived as forming a "silicon shield" against a potential military invasion by China.
