Tupperware, the container maker, saw its shares plummet by nearly 50% on Monday following a gloomy warning about its future prospects. The company said in a regulatory filing last Friday that there is "substantial doubt" about its ability to continue operating as a going concern and that it is working with financial advisers to secure additional funds.
The company is also reviewing its property portfolio and considering potential job losses. Tupperware has been struggling to maintain its market position in the face of increasing competition from rivals and a decline in the number of sellers.
