Simone Biles made a triumphant return to the world stage at the 2023 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, dominating the women's all-around qualification and making history in the process. Not only did she secure the top spot in the qualification round, but she also became the first woman to successfully perform the Yurchenko double pike vault at an international competition.

With confidence and precision, Biles executed the high-difficulty maneuver, showcasing a roundoff onto the springboard, followed by a back handspring onto the vault, and concluding with a piked double backflip before sticking the landing with just a slight step backward. This astounding achievement has earned Biles her fifth named element, as the skill will now be called the Biles II in recognition of her remarkable talent and contribution to the sport.

Her exceptional performance in the qualification round resulted in an all-around score of 58.865, solidifying her first-place position and placing her in a commanding position to qualify for all four individual finals as well as the all-around final later in the week. Biles currently holds the top spot on three apparatuses – floor, vault, and balance beam – while also ranking second on the uneven bars, just behind her teammate Shilese Jones.

Additionally, Biles' presence significantly contributed to the overall success of the US team. They achieved an impressive qualifying score of 171.395, which indicates a strong possibility of reaching the team final once all teams have completed their respective qualifying rounds. This score surpasses the one that secured their first-place qualification in the previous year.

This competition marks Biles' comeback on the international stage since the Tokyo 2020 Games, where she withdrew from several events due to the mental block known as the "twisties." Demonstrating her resilience and outstanding abilities, she went on to win a record-breaking eighth national all-around title. By participating in Antwerp, Biles also made history as the first American woman to represent her country at six artistic world championships.

Meanwhile, the US men's gymnastics team showcased their prowess by securing a spot in the team competition at the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris. They qualified for the team final, finishing in second place behind Japan. With their impressive performance, the US men's team exhibited their potential for success, adding to the excitement surrounding American gymnastics.
