In preparation for the presidential elections next year, Senegal's President Macky Sall confirmed the retention of his chosen successor in a major government reshuffle. The move comes as Sall prepares to leave office next year.
In an official statement sent via email, Oumar Ba, the Secretary General at the Presidency, said that Prime Minister Amadou Ba will maintain his position and proceed to head up a restructured cabinet, which is set to be announced soon.
Senegal's economy, valued at $31 billion, has dealt with ongoing political unease, despite the positive economic performance under President Sall’s leadership. Since assuming office in 2012, Sall has overseen an average annual growth rate of more than 5%, instigating a sense of optimism for the country's economic future.
Additionally, the economy is projected to experience an uptick, stimulated by the commencement of significant oil and gas projects. These undertakings are slated to start production in the first quarter of the upcoming year, which will likely contribute to further strengthening the Senegalese economy.
