Liverpool ended their five-game winless streak across all competitions with a dominating 6-1 away win against struggling Leeds United at Elland Road. Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp described it as their "best game" in a topsy-turvy 2022-23 campaign, and it is difficult to disagree with him, given the team's impressive display.

The game started quietly, but Liverpool took the lead controversially after 35 minutes. Trent Alexander-Arnold dispossessed Leeds full-back Junior Firpo, and despite the ball striking the arm of the Liverpool player, play continued. Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah then had a quick interchange before the right-back squared the ball for Cody Gakpo to score.

Liverpool doubled their lead less than five minutes later, with Salah getting on the scoresheet. Diogo Jota capitalized on another Leeds mistake before freeing Salah to finish past goalkeeper Illan Meslier.

Leeds needed a quick response after the break, and they got it through Luis Sinisterra, who dinked the ball over Alisson to reduce the deficit to 2-1. However, Liverpool regained their two-goal advantage after Jota received a through ball from Curtis Jones and finished clinically.

Liverpool's fast breaks continued to be the theme of the second half, and Salah grabbed his second goal of the game after Liverpool burst down the left through Andy Robertson. Jota added a fifth goal with a strike from the edge of the box, and substitute Darwin Núñez ended the scoring with Liverpool's sixth goal of the game.

Alexander-Arnold had a standout performance in a new hybrid midfield role, with 153 touches in the game, which was "the second-most of any player in a Premier League match this season," according to Opta Analyst. Liverpool's emphatic win showed that they are still in the race for a Champions League spot next season.

On the other hand, Leeds faces a battle to avoid relegation, with the club in 16th place and just two points above the relegation zone. Leeds head coach Javi Gracia admitted that his players "have to improve [their] levels" as they face a tough run-in to the season.

Liverpool will host Nottingham Forest in their next Premier League game, while Leeds will head to London to play Fulham. Overall, Liverpool's win was a statement of intent, and Klopp's side will look to build on this performance and climb the table in the coming weeks.
