Peel Regional Police are continuing their investigation into the disappearance of a high-value cargo container containing more than $15 million in gold and other valuable items from Toronto's Pearson International Airport. According to reports, the container was removed from a holding facility by illegal means on Monday evening. Police have not confirmed whether security cameras captured the incident, nor have they revealed which airline transported the container or who owns it.

While the contents of the container were not exclusively gold, it is believed that the shipment contained other items of significant monetary value. The container was described as being 5-6 square feet in size. Stephen Duivesteyn of Peel Regional Police declined to speculate on whether the theft was carried out by professionals. He emphasised that the investigation is in its early stages and that investigators are keeping an open mind as to how the container was stolen.

Despite the high-value nature of the contents, police have said that they believe this to be an isolated incident and do not anticipate that the investigation will affect the airport's operations. Pearson International Airport is Canada's busiest airport and served over 50 million passengers in 2019. The disappearance of the cargo container has attracted widespread attention, given the significant value of its contents. However, police have urged caution and emphasised that the investigation is ongoing, with no firm conclusions yet reached.
