According to the National Weather Service, a significant amount of rainfall, up to 2.5 inches (6.4 centimeters), is expected between tonight and Saturday morning from northern New Jersey to southern New England. This poses a serious risk of flash flooding, exacerbating the already ongoing flooding conditions in the area. Additionally, there is a potential for river levels to rise further, posing additional challenges. The threat of urban flooding looms over the bustling New York City metro area, requiring residents and authorities to remain vigilant.

Meanwhile, the greater Chicago region is preparing for significant snowfall as the storm system progresses. Suburban areas may see up to 12 inches of snow, while the city itself is expected to receive 3 to 6 inches. Such heavy snow accumulation can cause travel disruptions, making roads treacherous and impacting public transportation. Residents are advised to exercise caution and be prepared for potential delays and inconveniences.

The storm has already taken its toll on air travel, with a substantial number of flight cancellations. As of 10:58 a.m. New York time, FlightAware reported a staggering 2,469 cancellations for US flights in and out of the country. Over 1,000 flights to and from Chicago's O'Hare and Midway airports have been scrapped, highlighting the extent of the disruption caused by the storm system.

In addition to the storms sweeping across the central and eastern regions, the state of Texas is experiencing the arrival of an Arctic air mass, leading to very cold temperatures and the potential for snow accumulation over the coming weekend and early next week. The Texas power grid monitor has expressed concerns about power demand reaching record levels, indicating potential strain on the system.

As the storm system continues its path, power outages have already affected thousands of customers across Texas, Arkansas, Mississippi, and Tennessee. Similarly, in the Midwest, large numbers of customers in Illinois and Wisconsin are currently without electricity, adding to the challenges faced by residents in these areas.

With these weather events unfolding across multiple states, authorities are urging residents to stay updated and heed any warnings or advisories issued by local officials. It is essential to take necessary precautions to ensure personal safety and be prepared for potential disruptions to daily routines as the storm system progresses.
