Dutch tank storage firm Koninklijke Vopak NV has reported a recent data breach at its Pengerang terminal located in Malaysia. The company stated in a tweet on Saturday that "an IT incident resulted in the unauthorised access of some data" at the terminal and an investigation is currently underway. However, the spokesperson confirmed that there has been no impact on Vopak's global network.
Pengerang Independent Terminals, which is situated to the east of Singapore and has the capacity to store 1.76 million cubic meters of petroleum products, is 44% owned by Vopak, according to their annual report. The spokesperson did not provide any specific information on the timing of the incident and which data was stolen. The company is set to announce its first-quarter results on April 26.
This data breach is a concerning development for Vopak, as the company stores and handles a wide range of hazardous materials including chemicals and gases, and any unauthorized access to this data could pose significant risks to both the company and its customers. The incident highlights the importance of strong cybersecurity measures and the need for constant vigilance in protecting sensitive data. It remains to be seen how this incident will impact Vopak's reputation and financial performance in the coming months.
