Standing tall as an iconic symbol of Cairo's rich history, the Citadel of Cairo welcomed visitors to its newest addition on Sunday. This medieval fortress, dating back to 1176 A.D., was the brainchild of the legendary Salah al-Din al-Ayyubi, renowned for his conquest of Jerusalem from the Crusaders. Serving as Egypt's governmental hub for over seven centuries, the Citadel has now expanded its tourist offerings with the unveiling of two semi-circular towers.

The Ramla and Haddad towers, part of the newly opened section, were erected in the wake of Salah al-Din's legacy by his successors, Sultan Al-Adil Al-Ayyubi and Sultan Al-Nasser Saladin Al-Ayyubi. While these towers once served as barracks for the army and police, they now showcase the architectural grandeur and historical significance of the Citadel to the public. Their integration into the Citadel's tour itinerary marks a significant step in enhancing the tourist experience within the ancient fortress.

Minister of Tourism, Ahmed Eissa, expressed his excitement for the future of tourism in Egypt, highlighting the strategic importance of incorporating the newly opened section into the visitors' itinerary. Eissa revealed plans for a comprehensive tourism enhancement strategy, set to be unveiled in the upcoming month, focusing on reinvigorating Cairo as a cultural hotspot for travelers. The initiative, titled 'Cairo City Break', aims to extend the average visitor's stay at the Citadel from one hour to a more immersive three-hour experience.

With the revitalization of the Citadel as a key attraction within Cairo, Egypt seeks to position itself as a premier cultural destination, offering visitors a comprehensive journey through its historical tapestry. As tourists explore the newly unveiled towers and immerse themselves in the stories of Salah al-Din's legacy, they are sure to be captivated by the allure and grandeur of one of the world's most significant medieval citadels. The Citadel of Cairo stands not only as a testament to the country's illustrious past but also as a beacon guiding travelers towards a deeper understanding of Egypt's cultural heritage.
