As anticipation builds for the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Air France is gearing up to meet the surge in demand by expanding its long-haul flight offerings. The French branch of Air France-KLM has announced plans to increase summer capacity on long-distance routes by 9% compared to last year. This expansion includes the resumption of flights between Paris and Minneapolis, the introduction of service to Phoenix, and additional frequencies to Raleigh-Durham in North Carolina.
The decision to boost transatlantic flights comes on the heels of Air France-KLM reporting a fourth-quarter loss and capacity constraints for 2023. Despite challenges related to geopolitical tensions in certain regions, overall demand for air travel remains robust. In light of the upcoming Paris Olympics, Air France is strategically positioning itself to cater to the influx of visitors expected to flock to the French capital during the sporting event.
With the Paris 2024 Games scheduled from July 26 to August 11, Air France's increased flight frequency aims to accommodate the influx of travelers heading to France for the Olympics. Not only are they enhancing connections to the US, with more than 210 weekly flights planned for summer, but they are also expanding their reach to Abu Dhabi, Tokyo, and Tanzania. Additionally, seasonal routes to picturesque destinations like Verona, Narvik-Lofoten in Norway, and Kalamata, Greece are set to be introduced, offering travelers a diverse range of choices for summer getaways.
In a nod to the glitz and glamour of the entertainment industry, Air France is set to operate two special flights between Los Angeles and Nice specifically for the Cannes Film Festival in May. These flights will provide a convenient link between the movie capital of the world and the enchanting French Riviera, catering to high-profile attendees and film enthusiasts alike. Overall, Air France's strategic expansion of its flight network underscores its commitment to meeting the evolving needs of travelers and capitalizing on the opportunities presented by major global events like the Paris 2024 Olympics.
