In a commanding display of skill and teamwork, Paris St Germain took a significant step towards clinching their 12th Ligue 1 title with a resounding 4-1 victory over Lorient. Ousmane Dembele and Kylian Mbappe were the shining stars of the match, each scoring twice to propel PSG towards the brink of yet another league triumph.
With a total of 69 points and only four games remaining, Mauricio Pochettino's side now sits comfortably at the top of the table, a staggering 14 points ahead of second-placed Monaco. The Parisian giants are set to seal the title if Monaco falter in their upcoming fixture against Lille, later on Wednesday.
Despite missing key players like Bradley Barcola, Marquinhos, and Achraf Hakimi, PSG displayed their depth and quality as Dembele opened the scoring in the 19th minute with a clinical finish past Lorient's goalkeeper, Yvon Mvogo. Mbappe swiftly doubled the lead just three minutes later, capitalizing on a precise cross from Nuno Mendes to put PSG firmly in control.
Dembele continued to assert his influence on the game, extending PSG's lead in the 60th minute with a simple tap-in from Mbappe's delivery. Although Lorient managed to pull one back through Mohamed Bamba in the 73rd minute, it was too little, too late for the relegation-threatened side, who remain with just 26 points from 30 games.
Mbappe, not content with his earlier contribution, put the final nail in the coffin with a powerful right-footed strike in the dying moments of the match, taking his tally to an impressive 26 goals for the season. As PSG march towards another domestic title, their focus will now shift to the highly anticipated Champions League semi-final clash against Borussia Dortmund, with confidence running high within the squad following their dominant display against Lorient.
