German Chancellor Olaf Scholz reaffirmed his commitment to push through a landmark reform to the nation's pensions system during a meeting with key cabinet members this week. Addressing reports of potential tensions within the ruling coalition, the Social Democrat leader emphasized that the planned pension reform will be approved in cabinet by the end of this month.

The meeting, which included Finance Minister Christian Lindner and Economy Minister Robert Habeck, was seen by some local media outlets as a "crisis meeting." However, Scholz clarified that the discussions were part of ongoing efforts to finalize a comprehensive package of measures aimed at stimulating the country's sluggish economy.

"We have long been working on these plans to revitalize our economy, and the pension reform is a key component of our strategy," Scholz stated during a press briefing following the meeting. He assured the public that the reform package is on track and will be formally introduced in May.

Despite rumors of discord within the coalition government, Scholz emphasized the collaborative nature of their work. "It is important for everyone to know that we are working smoothly together in this government," he stated. The ruling alliance of Social Democrats, Greens, and Free Democrats aims to approve next year's budget in cabinet by early July, with plans to present it to parliament in mid-August.

While negotiations over the budget are expected to involve discussions around spending constraints, Scholz remained optimistic about reaching a consensus. "We have many more meetings lined up to ensure timely decisions on the federal budget and the economic revitalization efforts," he explained, underscoring the government's commitment to working together effectively.
