Ecuador’s government, under the leadership of President Daniel Noboa, is focused on creating a stable and attractive environment for foreign investment, according to Production and Trade Minister Sonsoles Garcia during an interview. The government is working closely with international organizations like the IMF and World Bank to develop policies that will endure across different administrations.

Despite facing setbacks in a recent referendum where voters rejected certain proposals, President Noboa is determined to enhance the investment climate through legislative changes expected in 2025. These reforms are aimed at encouraging foreign investors to commit to Ecuador for the long term.

In response to rising security concerns due to organized crime, the government is implementing measures to combat violent criminal gangs and reduce the country’s high murder rate. By strengthening security forces and enacting new legislation, Minister Garcia believes that significant progress will be made in the near future.

The recent challenges with electricity supply, caused by drought affecting hydroelectric reservoirs, have highlighted the need for investment in non-conventional renewable energy sources. Minister Garcia acknowledged that resolving Ecuador’s energy issues will require time, estimating a timeline of around five years.

Furthermore, negotiations for a free trade agreement with Canada have started positively, showcasing Ecuador’s commitment to expanding its trade relationships. Additionally, efforts are underway to lobby for legislation in the US Congress that would grant Ecuador duty-free access, a move that could further boost the country’s economic prospects on the global stage.
