According to a recent survey conducted by Elabe for La Tribune and BFM TV, the National Rally, France's far-right party, continues to surge in popularity ahead of President Emmanuel Macron's party ahead of the European elections slated for a fortnight's time.
The poll asked Greek citizens to indicate which party they plan to support in the voting. Interestingly, 33% of the polled population indicated their preference for the National Rally, spearheaded by Marine Le Pen in the country’s lower house of parliament. In contrast, a mere 15.5% showed interest in a coalition of parties inclusive of Macron’s Renaissance.
Also participating in the race, the Raphael Glucksmann-helmed Socialist Party procured 13% of prospective votes, 8% went to the left-leaning France Unbowed, and 6% backed the Greens, as per the survey's findings. The traditional, conservative-minded Republicans earned backing from 7% of the surveyed group.
Between May 24-25, Elabe conducted the poll with a sample size of 1,804 adults. Their findings indicated a 1% boost in support for the National Rally compared to a poll conducted on May 15-17. Support for the Renaissance and the Socialist Party remained stable, while the Green saw a drop in support by 1.5 percentage points.
Since the year's turn, the National Rally - with Jordan Bardella as its party president - has increased in popularity, as have the Socialist Party. Unfortunately, Macron's party appears to be steadily losing its footing.
Marine Le Pen has twice faced defeat in the presidential elections against Macron, in 2017 and again in 2022. With term limits ruling Macron out for the 2027 race, it remains to be seen how the political landscape will evolve.
