In southern Germany and parts of Switzerland, heavy rainfall has led to widespread chaos, particularly in the transportation and communication sectors. Train connections between Munich, Zurich, and Bregenz have been canceled due to the inclement weather, affecting travel plans for many passengers. Flood warnings have been issued for nearly half of Germany, including regions in Thuringia, Saxony, and Saxony-Anhalt.

The Upper Danube River and its tributaries are also facing high water alerts, causing concern for shipping activities in the region. A dam near Augsburg in Bavaria has broken, leading to evacuations of residents in Fischach who were stranded in their homes. Emergency shelters are being set up to assist those affected by the rising waters.

In Wiesensteig, Baden-Württemberg, over 2,100 residents have been advised to boil tap water as floodwaters have entered the water supply system. Similarly, in Hesse's Babenhausen, near Frankfurt, a district authority has recommended hanging white sheets out of windows in case of emergencies due to mobile network failures caused by the floods.

The Upper Rhine River has already exceeded a height of 700 cm, and water levels are expected to rise further, potentially disrupting shipping along this vital trade route. In Switzerland, roads have been blocked by floods and landslides, further complicating the situation for residents and travelers.

The forecast for the weekend suggests that the thunderstorms will intensify, exacerbating the challenges faced by the affected regions. Authorities are on high alert to respond to evolving situations and ensure the safety of those impacted by the severe weather conditions.
