In preparation for its market debut slated for mid-next year, Riyadh Air, owned by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, is strategically expanding its network of partnerships with established carriers worldwide. Sources familiar with the airline's plans have revealed that Riyadh Air is on the verge of finalizing a significant partnership with a prominent southeast Asian airline while also actively negotiating agreements with an Indian carrier for long-haul flights and a US-based airline.
As a new player in the aviation industry, Riyadh Air aims to regain market share that has been traditionally dominated by regional giants such as Emirates and Qatar Airways. With a sizable local population exceeding 36 million and a burgeoning tourism sector, Riyadh Air is gearing up to enhance its fleet capabilities to cater to the diverse travel demands.
The impending partnerships are expected to provide Riyadh Air with immediate access to the extensive networks established by its collaborating airlines, facilitating seamless connectivity for travelers. Noteworthy alliances have already been formed with Turkish Airlines and Saudia, the national carrier of Saudi Arabia, last year, further bolstering Riyadh Air's global reach.
Currently holding orders for 39 787 aircraft with options for an additional 33, Riyadh Air is also contemplating the procurement of narrowbody and additional widebody jets to expand its short-haul services effectively. These strategic moves underscore Riyadh Air's proactive approach in solidifying its presence in the competitive aviation market and positioning itself as a key player in the global airline industry.
