In a groundbreaking move, the state of Qatar has announced the initiation of a colossal tourism development project, set to revolutionize the country's tourism industry. The Simaisma project, valued at 20 billion riyals ($5.5 billion), is slated to feature a sprawling amusement park that will surpass the iconic Magic Kingdom by Walt Disney Co.
Located just 40 minutes north of Qatar's bustling capital, Doha, the Simaisma project will span an extensive 8-million square meters along 7 kilometers of pristine beachfront land. This ambitious endeavor aims to create a diverse entertainment hub, encompassing an 18-hole golf course surrounded by 300 luxurious villas, upscale resorts, a vibrant marina, beach club, as well as a variety of residential and commercial properties.
The project, spearheaded by the Qatari Diar Real Estate Investment Company under the guidance of the state's sovereign wealth fund, marks a pivotal moment in Qatar's strategic efforts to elevate itself into a premier tourist destination. With aspirations for tourism to contribute 12% of the nation's GDP by 2030, Qatar has been proactive in cultivating its tourism sector, particularly after the successful hosting of the FIFA World Cup in 2022.
As part of the extensive development plan, Qatari Diar is currently in negotiations with leading international theme park operators to oversee and manage the expansive amusement park, which is poised to exceed 650,000 square meters. The project also offers 16 plots for private developers and investors to construct hotels, residences, and various amenities on the vast expanse of land, attracting interest from developers across Saudi Arabia, UAE, Turkey, the US, and Europe.
