Europe is set to experience another heatwave next week, following a temporary relief from the scorching temperatures that have been gripping the continent. Cooler weather in northwest Europe will provide a brief respite, with cities like Berlin and London seeing minimum temperatures dropping to around 10-11.5C. However, the hot weather is expected to make a comeback over the weekend, particularly in the southeastern regions.

The ongoing wildfires in Greece have been exacerbated by strong winds, putting pressure on authorities to contain the blazes. While conditions are predicted to improve in the coming days, the island of Crete remains on high alert for wildfires. The impact of climate change is evident in the extreme weather events sweeping across the globe, with 2024 on track to become the hottest year on record.

Greece continues to bear the brunt of the summer heat, with firefighters battling fires in Zakynthos and Viotia. Meanwhile, Germany and Italy are preparing for warmer weather next week, with temperatures reaching up to 28-30C in cities like Berlin and Rome. However, Switzerland and Italy are currently grappling with the aftermath of severe storms, leading to widespread flooding and landslides in regions like Piedmont and Valle d’Aosta.

In the UK, a flood alert remains in place near Henley, indicating high groundwater levels that could be further impacted by rainfall in the coming weeks. The situation is expected to persist, highlighting the ongoing challenges posed by extreme weather events and the urgent need for climate action.
