Tech industry giant Intel's co-founder and former chairman, Gordon Moore, has passed away at the age of 94. The announcement was made by both the company and the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, stating that he died in Hawaii, "surrounded by family." Alongside Robert Noyce, Moore established Intel in 1968 and served as its executive vice president until 1975. He was then named the company's president, before becoming its chairman and CEO in 1979, positions he held until 1987. Moore was named chairman emeritus of Intel in 1997 before stepping down in 2006.

Foundation president Harvey Fineberg said, "Those of us who have met and worked with Gordon will forever be inspired by his wisdom, humility, and generosity." Pat Gelsinger, Intel's current CEO, also paid tribute to Moore, saying, "Gordon Moore defined the technology industry through his insight and vision." Moore and Noyce played critical roles in the founding of Fairchild Semiconductor, which pioneered the initial commercial production of diffused silicon transistors and later the world's first commercially viable integrated circuits.

Along with his wife, Betty Irene Whitaker, Moore established the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, which has donated over $5.1 billion to charitable causes since its creation in 2000. Moore received the National Medal of Technology from President George H.W. Bush in 1990 and the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President George W. Bush in 2002. Moore is survived by his wife, two sons, and four grandchildren.
