In a recent announcement, BMW is recalling a total of 105,558 crossovers and sedans in the United States due to concerns regarding a starter motor that has the potential to overheat. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) disclosed that this recall affects a range of models, including certain X5, X7, 3 Series, and 7 Series vehicles.
The NHTSA elaborated that in the event of a starter motor failure, repeated attempts to start the vehicle may lead to the starter motor overheating due to an electrical overload. As a precautionary measure, BMW is planning to issue a software update to rectify this issue.
Dealers will be responsible for updating the vehicle software at no cost to the owners. The NHTSA anticipates that notification letters will be sent out to affected vehicle owners later in September, providing them with instructions on how to proceed with the necessary update.
This recall demonstrates BMW's commitment to ensuring the safety and reliability of their vehicles and underscores the importance of addressing potential issues promptly to mitigate any risks to drivers and passengers.
