Finance Minister Ricardo Bonilla announced on Blu Radio radio that the agreed-upon compromise entails a gradual increase of 800 pesos (approximately $0.20) for this year. This figure is notably lower than the nearly 2,000 pesos initially proposed by the Gustavo Petro administration on August 31st. Furthermore, discussions regarding potential additional increases for next year will continue between the government and the truckers.

Following the agreement, Transportation Minister María Constanza García addressed the press, stating that the immediate goal is to bring an end to the protests so that normalcy can swiftly return to Colombian society. Truckers have already begun to clear the blockades that had immobilized major roadways throughout the country.

The strike had instilled fear of widespread food and fuel shortages nationwide since its commencement on Monday. Thankfully, with the resolution now in place, Colombians can look forward to the resumption of essential services and the ease of economic activities that had been significantly disrupted by the protests.
