Stellantis NV has issued a recall for approximately 1.46 million Ram trucks due to a software glitch that could potentially disable their electronic stability control systems. The affected models include certain 2019 and 2021-2024 Ram 1500 trucks, with the majority of the recalls concentrated in North America, while 61,000 vehicles are subject to recall in other regions.

The software bug triggers the illumination of various indicator lights on the dashboard, including those for adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, antilock braking system, and electronic stability control, signaling that these systems are unavailable. Despite this, the foundation brake function remains operational. The inadvertent deactivation of the electronic stability control system could lead to non-compliance with US federal motor standards.

Stellantis has assured that the issue can be rectified via a software update, which will be provided to customers free of charge. Individuals impacted by the recall will be notified through mail. The Netherlands-based automaker, which also owns brands like Jeep, Chrysler, and Fiat, stated that no accidents associated with the software problem have been reported so far.
