Kevin Costner and his wife of Christine Baumgartner, have announced that they will be divorcing. The news was shared in a statement by Costner's representative, Arnold Robinson, who explained that "circumstances beyond his control" had led to the dissolution of the marriage.
The couple, who met on a golf course and reconnected years later at a restaurant opening, were married in Colorado in 2004. They share three children together, while Costner also has four other children from previous relationships.
Costner, who recently won a Golden Globe for his performance on "Yellowstone," made reference to his wife in a social media post in February. He described how Baumgartner had helped celebrate his achievement when they were unable to attend the awards event due to flooding near their home.
Despite the difficult circumstances surrounding their divorce, Robinson has requested that the couple's privacy, as well as that of their children, be respected during this time. It is not yet clear what led to the couple's decision to end their marriage.
The news comes as a surprise to many fans of the couple, who had been together for almost two decades. However, it serves as a reminder that even long-term relationships are not immune to the challenges and difficulties that life can bring.
