In a landslide victory, President Kais Saied secured a second term in the Tunisian election with an overwhelming 90.69% of the vote, according to preliminary results announced by the electoral commission on Monday. The low voter turnout of 28.8% in Sunday's election did not detract from Saied's resounding win, as he triumphed over his two election rivals.
One of Saied's challengers was his former ally turned critic, Zouhair Maghzaoui, leader of the Chaab Party. Despite Maghzaoui's presence in the race, Saied's popularity and support prevailed, solidifying his position as the frontrunner throughout the campaign. The electoral results reflected the Tunisian public's continued confidence in Saied's leadership and vision for the country.
The other contender, Ayachi Zammel, faced additional hurdles in the election as he had been recently jailed. Despite the challenges, Zammel participated in the election, demonstrating resilience and commitment to the democratic process in Tunisia.
President Saied's re-election marks a significant milestone for Tunisia as the country looks towards a future shaped by his leadership. With a renewed mandate, Saied is expected to continue his efforts to address pressing issues facing the nation and work towards furthering the development and prosperity of Tunisia.
