In a recent development, General Motors Co. has initiated a recall for a select number of Chevrolet Bolt battery-powered electric cars due to potential fire risks. This recall affects 107 Bolt models from the 2020 to 2022 model years, a smaller scale action compared to a previous recall involving 142,000 Bolt vehicles for a similar hazard.
The current recall is linked to a software issue stemming from a prior recall. The malfunction in the software programming tool utilized during servicing for the earlier recall may lead to a failure in notifying drivers about defective battery components that require replacement, as outlined in documents from the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
This latest move comes amid General Motors' transition towards a more tailored battery strategy for its electric vehicles, departing from a one-size-fits-all approach. As the automotive industry continues to navigate the challenges and advancements in the electric vehicle sector, manufacturers are actively working to address safety concerns and enhance the reliability of their electric models.
