Venezuela's opposition leader, Edmundo Gonzalez, expressed unwavering confidence on Tuesday that he would overcome all obstacles and return from exile in Spain to his homeland in time for his inauguration as president on January 10th. Speaking at an event in Madrid, Gonzalez emphasized his firm belief in his ability to lead his country, stating, "You don't go to war with fear, which is why I'm convinced I will somehow travel to Venezuela to take over."

Gonzalez faces serious challenges, including an outstanding arrest warrant on charges of conspiracy and other alleged crimes, issued by President Nicolas Maduro who accuses the opposition of attempting a coup. Despite these obstacles, the opposition maintains that Gonzalez was the legitimate winner of the July election, which was controversially awarded to Maduro.

At the event, Gonzalez's running mate for vice president, Maria Corina Machado, joined via video link from an undisclosed location in Venezuela. Machado echoed the sentiment of challenging times ahead, describing the road ahead as "tremendously challenging and dangerous."

As tensions continue to mount in Venezuela, Gonzalez's determination to return and assume the presidency underscores the ongoing political turmoil and power struggle within the country. The opposition's resolve to uphold what they believe to be the true outcome of the election sets the stage for a potential showdown with the Maduro government in the coming days.
