As dense fog continues to envelop the UK, major airports such as Stansted, Heathrow, Luton, and Manchester are experiencing significant disruptions to flight schedules. Passengers at Gatwick have been particularly cautioned about potential delays and advised to stay in contact with their airlines for updates as visibility drops to just 100 meters in some areas.

The fog-induced restrictions have led to air traffic delays and cancellations, with Gatwick airport experiencing a wave of flight disruptions. The anticipated busiest day of the holiday period at Gatwick, Sunday, is expected to be heavily impacted, with 769 flights scheduled.

Nats, the UK's primary air traffic control provider, has implemented temporary air restrictions due to the low visibility caused by the fog. Their priority remains the safety of all passengers and staff, as they continue to monitor the situation closely with the assistance of Met Office experts.

Travelers, including a couple stranded in the Isle of Man, have faced delays and cancellations, altering their holiday plans and extending their stay unexpectedly. While frustrating, passengers are reminded of their entitlement to assistance if their flight is delayed for more than two hours, including provisions for food, drinks, and accommodation if required.

The Met Office has advised caution to all travelers, urging them to allow extra time for their journeys and to maintain safe driving practices during periods of poor visibility. However, there is a glimmer of hope as the weather conditions are expected to improve on Saturday night, with a brighter outlook for Sunday in south-east England.

Looking ahead to the New Year's Eve period, a mix of unsettled weather is predicted, with Scotland facing a yellow weather warning for snow and rain, potentially causing disruption. In addition, northern England is on alert for strong winds on Monday, with gusts of up to 60mph expected to impact travel and power supplies in certain regions.

As the UK navigates through the challenges presented by the weather, both travelers and authorities are urged to remain vigilant and prepared for further disruptions in the coming days.
