In a resounding victory, Zoran Milanovic, the incumbent Croatian President and member of the opposition Social Democratic Party, secured a second term in office. The preliminary results, based on 98.65% of the polling stations, revealed that Milanovic had garnered an impressive 74.58% of the votes, while his closest rival, Dragan Primorac from the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), trailed behind with 25.42%.

The voter turnout in this election, held in the NATO and European Union member state, stood at 44.15%, reflecting the significance of civic engagement in Croatian democracy. Milanovic, upon learning of his victory, expressed his gratitude to the people of Croatia, stating, "This is a big day for me personally, and I view this victory as recognition for my work, a kind of act of people's trust in me."

Throughout his campaign, Milanovic emphasized his track record of diligent service and commitment to the nation. "In the past five years, I did my job in the best faith and I hope that people have seen that," he remarked after casting his ballot in the capital city of Zagreb earlier in the day.

As the President of Croatia, Milanovic holds a role that, while largely ceremonial, includes involvement in foreign policy, defense, and security matters. During his tenure, Milanovic, a charismatic former prime minister, has not shied away from challenging Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic on various policy issues, leading to animated exchanges between the two leaders.

With this decisive electoral triumph, Zoran Milanovic now stands poised to continue his leadership, steering Croatia through the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
