Djimon Hounsou, who is set to star in "Shazam! Fury of the Gods," recently spoke out about his experiences in Hollywood. Despite being in the industry for over three decades, he feels that he has been cheated out of the recognition and pay he deserves. Hounsou admitted to facing financial challenges and having to fight for the pay he felt he deserved. He also expressed frustration with the limited roles for Black actors and how he has portrayed a slave three times within five years.
Hounsou believes that he has been overlooked by Hollywood, despite being nominated for his performances in "In America" and "Blood Diamond" alongside Leonardo DiCaprio. He feels that it is unfair that his co-stars received nominations over him, particularly in "Blood Diamond" where the movie follows his character. Despite his struggles, Hounsou remains hopeful and is grateful for the opportunities he has had, particularly his role in the "Shazam!" sequel.
He believes that Hollywood is slowly giving him a chance and recognizes his talent. Hounsou hopes for more significant roles in bigger productions and looks forward to overcoming the struggles he has faced in the industry.
