In a strategic move, Tesla Inc. has decided to increase prices on their vehicles in Canada and is encouraging customers to nab cars that were imported before the implementation of counter-tariffs on US-made vehicles. This decision follows the recent imposition of tariffs by President Donald Trump on Canadian goods, including a hefty 25% tax on vehicle content sourced from outside the US within a US-Mexico-Canada trade agreement, prompting Canada to retaliate with similar import levies.
On Tesla's Canadian website, a banner was prominently displayed over the weekend, urging potential buyers to “Explore pre-tariff priced inventory while supplies last.” A comparison on the site showed that prices for new orders placed after April 26 were notably higher than those for the same models available in existing inventory. For instance, the long-range Model 3 cars with all-wheel drive were priced at C$79,990 for new orders, while the same 2025 model year vehicles already in stock were being offered at around C$69,000.
Specialist website driveteslacanada.ca reported that the increases in prices for certain models, such as the all-wheel drive Cybertruck, could go up as much as 22% for Canadian buyers. Tesla has not provided a comment on the price adjustments so far.
Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, has faced criticism in Canada due to his public support for President Trump, who has expressed a desire for Canada to be included in the US. Musk has announced plans to dedicate more time to managing Tesla operations following disappointing first-quarter financial results for the company.
